Spring Has Sprung!
Well, for people in my area, spring is finally here. It was about 55 yesterday, the sun was shining, and there was absolutely no wind. That combination could mean only one thing: I spent my day on the golf course. I got my first 18 holes of the season in, and it felt great, even though my face got a little sunburned. Last year I worked about 60 hours a week over summer and I still managed to put in between 70 and 80 rounds in my spare time. It got to be a little sickening to be honest. I found myself waking up at 6:00 in the morning just to be able to get 18 in before going to work. This year I’m putting the over/under at 100 rounds of 18 holes, which is aggressive but realistic since I will be working considerably less and there will be many days in which I golf at least 36 holes.
Speaking of golf, my roommate and I share a common love for the game and thus, we enjoy playing together. We talked literally everyday over winter about how we couldn’t wait to hit the links when spring hit, and then on the day we could finally go, tragedy struck. He went out to his car to grab his golf shoes, and his clubs had been stolen. Not just one club, his entire bag along with every club he owned minus his putter, which was thankfully here in the apartment (we spent the winter putting into a cup from across the room).
Seriously, is there such a thing as worse timing? The only way I can describe the way we felt is to liken the situation to the scene in A Christmas Story in which the neighbor’s dogs come in the house and destroy and mangle the Christmas turkey dinner before the family had a chance to eat. That old man looked forward to that turkey year after year and was known throughout the tri-county area as a bona fide turkey junkie. It was the same with us. After almost six months of doing nothing but counting the days until the snow melted and we could get out there and golf again, someone erased that possibility the night before we were going to do just that. This was absolutely unacceptable.
I was invited by another friend to join him on the links, and I went, but the whole time I couldn’t help but feel like I was abandoning my roommate after the death of a loved one. If I knew how to play the trumpet, I would have played “Taps” for him.
Moving on, The Masters weekend was good, not great. I enjoyed watching, but it wasn’t exciting like I had hoped. Trevor Immelman shot a 75 (and finished the weekend at 8-under) on Sunday, which was good enough to clinch his first green jacket, while Tiger Woods finished three strokes behind after a disappointing outing in which he struggled to make birdie putts and gain any momentum. I’m not saying the tourney was boring because Tiger didn’t win, I really didn’t care about that. I just would have liked to see more of a swing on the leaderboard. After the first day, Immelman was tied with Justin Rose for the top spot, and Immelman led the entire rest of the way with the exception of a few holes in which Brandt Snedeker inched ahead.
I’m not worried, there are plenty more tournaments this year for me to get thrilled by, including three more majors. As much as I hate to cut this short, it’s again nice out and I am going to take advantage. I am working on that second viewer’s choice I told you about, but it’s coming along rather slowly because the topic is a tough one. Don’t worry though, I’ll force something out by the end of the week and even if it sucks, I’ll be okay with it because at this point I just want for that monkey to be off my back.
Kobe for MVP.
One love,
10

Garnett for MVP followed by Paul. I’m glad Tiger lost, but yet he gets all the press. So sick of hearing about the grand slam. I hope someone like Mickelson wins all four next year. Is it just me, or do all these golfers have smokin hot wives?

Seriously, Kobe for MVP. Tiger gets all the press because despite his loss he is still the world’s number one ranked player, and he did take second. But I agree, I am also sick of hearing about the grand slam. And yes, I would put the over/under of golfers who have hot wives at 97%.

As much as KG has made the Celtics a contender, he has Pierce and Allen as two All Star team mates. Kobe didn’t start playing balls out until Gasol joined on, so maybe it should be Gasol for MVP?
My vote goes to Chris Paul who is just dominating and is THE key player on his team. Take him away and the Hornets don’t even make the playoffs.
I’ve been playing Tiger Woods ‘08 (“it’s in the game”) on Wii. Does that count?
